IT'S GAME OVER -- FLAPPY BIRD SHUTS DOWN

The game still works on phones that had previously downloaded it but it is no longer available through apps stores.

Nguyen Ha Dong, a Vietnamese game creator, announced on Twitter Saturday that he would take down his game Flappy Birds. Dong wrote that he removed the game not for legal reasons but because he 'cannot take this anymore.'

The game was the most popular free mobile game on Earth. The game, which he said was inspired by Nintendo's Mario Bros, had been earning on average $50,000 a day from advertising, Dong said in a media interview.

Two friends of Dong said Japanese game maker Nintendo had sent him a warning notice. However the Nintendo said it was not considering a lawsuit and if it were true they couldn't comment on that.

Some speculate that Nguyen had already made enough money in one week to survive several years without an income and by removing the game from apps stores, he's set up for major attention to the next game. With Flappy Bird's extraordinary popularity, everyone will buy that new game, making him even richer, because of the fear that he'll soon remove that game too.

The game still works on phones that had previously downloaded it but it is no longer available through online stores. This resulted for some individuals to sell on eBay their smartphones with installed Flappy Bird for a higher price.
