The 22-year old "Stay With Me" singer slowed down the tempo for the popular tune and created a haunting, sentimental cover of the late diva's popular dance track.
In an interview, Sam Smith ironically said that the song makes him happy and that it's a feel-good song. "I love the juxtaposition of a melancholy lyric with an upbeat sound. People forget that's how she rose to fame. The more mature Whitney, like 'I Will Always Love You,' came later."
Sam Smith's debut album "In the Lonely Hour" is now out. The album's May release in the U.K. dethroned Coldplay from no.1 spot on the chart after outselling the band by 20,000 copies.
