In the latest trailer, we hear Aurora asking Maleficent why she doesn’t have wings like other fairies such as Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. "I had wings … once," Maleficent replies. "They were strong. They were stolen from me."
Apparently the loss of her wings has a story enough to make Maleficent evil.
